Gov. Riley: $66 million? No thanks.
To get this money from the economic stimulus package, Alabama would have expand who’s eligible for unemployment compensation. Gov. Riley decided he didn’t want the state to have to do that, so he turned down the $66 million.
The decision means thousands of out-of-work Alabamians who may have qualified for the expanded benefits, such as people who worked part-time, will continue to be blocked from collecting unemployment.
